On March 26, 2014 at the National Univercity "Kyiv Polytechnical Institute" the third Ukrainian scientific-practical conference "Social policy for terminally ill (incurable): public and trustees (supervisory) boardі as a tool to attract additional resources for the activities of institutions of social protection and health care". It brought together more than 60 experts in health care, social security, and scientists who work to help seriously ill citizens.

Co-organizers of the event were the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care, Department of Sociology and Law "KPI", Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum, the State Educational Research and Methodological Center for Palliative and Hospice Care National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.


Great interest of participants attracted reports "Palliative and Hospice Care in Ukraine: Achievements and Prospects. International experience in the organization and financing", "Supervisory boards in health care - an effective tool to reform the health care system", "Project "Hospital to Hospital", "Practical experience with the board of trustees of central children hospital "Okhmatdyt", "Organization of Board of Trustees as a tool to attract additional resources the institution", "Social order and public activities in order to improve the quality of social services", "The Role of charitable and religious organizations in assisting terminally ill", "What can be the role of public institutions in the social welfare and health care". Speakers at the event were the leading specialists in the organization and reform of health and social care, and civil society: Yu.Vlasenko (Trustee board of "Okhmatdyt", D.Nepochatova (Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum), V.Pavlyuk (Fund "Ukraine -3000", D.Chaykivska (Foundation "Caritas-Ukraine"), S.Soshynskyy (Foundation "Health of the Ukrainian people").

Speakers paid much attention to the role of public, non-governmental organizations which are beginning to take an active part in shaping social policy in our country, as well as the great need for cooperation between state and non-state providers of care. Supervisors (Trustees) Council at the public institutions can be a structure that facilitates the operation of the institution in periods of financial and economic difficulties.

Following the conference, a master class "When life becomes a point" by the known psychologist and expert in psychodrama Tatiana Zaytsevska (Kiev) have been organised. Active participation in this part took 15 representatives of social service institutions.

During the conference, participants received certificates, a collection of conference materials and other publications of the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care.
